Crews respond to 52 calls in 1 shift during Ice Storm

On Tuesday January 27th, 2009 a major ice storm hit the Ozarks and the Twin Lakes area. Crews all over the region were kept busy with heavy icing causing downed limbs, power lines, medical emergencies, and fires. The Mountain Home Fire Departments C-Shift and off duty crews responded to 52 calls within their 24 hour shift. Calls included wires down, trees on fire, medical assist, natural gas leaks, and 4 structure fires. On the next few days, A and B shifts ran an additional 50 calls for service. Prior to this the run record for a single shift was 16 runs with the average shift total being 6.
