Fire in an occupied four-plex on 08-04-2008

     MHFD was toned out to a report of a structure fire in an occupied four-plex on the south side of the city. Engine 1 arrived within minutes and found a 1 story four plex with heavy fire coming out 1 unit. Crews quickly found and knocked down the fire in the bedroom and hallway. After pulling ceiling it was discovered the fire had extended to the attic. Crews pulled ceiling and quickly extinguished all remaining fire. The fire was kept to the apartment of origin with only very light smoke reported in the other apartments. 1 occupant sustained minor injuries and went to the hospital by private vehicle. The fire was caused by kids trying to burn rubbing alcohol. Crews were on scene for approximately and hour and a half. Units on the assignment were Engines 1, 2, 6, Rescue 1, Ladder 1, Unit 203 and Unit 225.
