8th Street Apartment Fire November 7th, 2007

At approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday November 7th, firefighters were called out to a reported structure fire at 616 East 8th street. Engine 1 arrived and found an apartment building with heavy fire in 1 apartment and multiple exposures. 2 victims in the fire apartment had made it out before FD arrival but sustained serious burns, they were taken to BRMC by ambulance where they were then flown to Springfield, Mo burn center. Crews made and aggressive interior attack and had the major portion of the fire knocked down within 15 minutes. Additional arriving apparatus went to work checking for extension and ventilation. The fire was kept to the apartment of origin with smoke damage to apartments on either side and some fire damage to the exterior of those apartments. Firefighters were on the scene for about 3 hours hitting hotspots and investigating the fire. Units on the assignment were Engines 1, and 2, Tower 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, mobile cascade unit, and Chief 101.
